Wings Away's beginnings date back to March, 1966, when a meeting
was held in Melbourne. The proposal was floated by the Hostess
Superintendent of the day - Elaine Smith.
Elaine envisaged the members meeting regularly to renew friendships and she thought if a fund raising element was involved it would cement the group.
The idea was embraced and within 12 months branches had sprung up in New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland and Western Australia. Today Queensland not only has their principal branch in Brisbane but sub branches in Toowoomba, the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.
Each State supports a Charity of their own choosing and since inception Wings Away has raised in excess of $1,000.000 which has been donated to various causes Australia wide.
